When your kid’s room moonlights as a bedroom, playland, art studio, and homework HQ, it’s gotta be more than just hardworking...it needs to be downright genius. That’s why I did a double take (okay, maybe a triple take) when I spotted this wall-to-wall wonder desk and storage masterpiece dreamed up by Amy Wolfe (@foxgloves_and_wolfe).
Amy took one plain ol’ wall and turned it into the ultimate kid command center, thanks to a little IKEA TROFAST magic. Shelves, bins, and wall units came together like the Avengers of storage.
The result? A sleek, mega-sized workstation with storage galore - ready for homework, crafting, LEGO engineering, or whatever today’s mission might be.
“My goal was to whip up a custom, all-in-one desk and storage spot where my kiddo can play, create, and tackle homework,” Amy says (nailed it, Amy).
And get this — she pulled it off in just one day. Yep, one day to go from blank wall to total boss-level setup.
Mission? Crushed it. And with style points to spare.

The Do-It-All Kids’ Table (With Secret Storage Superpowers)
Step 1: Build Those TROFAST Units (and don’t forget the legs!)
Time to channel your inner IKEA wizard. Snap together the two wall storage units plus two TROFAST shelving systems. No need to bother with the third shelf—you're just borrowing its top for the desk surface. (Thanks for your sacrifice, extra TROFAST.)
Next up: legs! Pop four onto each of the floor units. You can also select from various sizes if you prefer a shorter or taller desk
Step 2: Get Those Bottom Units in Formation
First, slide your initial shelving unit into place along the wall — this is your anchor. Lay the desktop panel down beside it (we’re just test-driving the setup for now), then position the second shelf where it feels right. Take a step back, admire your handiwork, and make sure everything looks lined up and fabulous.
Happy with the layout? Time to lock it down! Fasten the first shelf to the wall using the trusty safety hardware (because wobbly furniture is not on the menu).
Next, it’s desktop time: grab some wood glue and a few basic brackets, and attach that top panel like a pro. Screw the brackets into the sides of the shelving units and under the desktop...one in each corner for good measure. Finally, secure the second shelf to the wall so the whole setup is rock solid.
Step 3: Get Those Wall Shelves Up
Now for the grand finale up top! Line up your TROFAST wall shelves so they sit pretty above your bottom units. Grab a stud finder (because no one wants shelves crashing down mid-craft project) and mount those bad boys at your chosen height. Use wall anchors where you need to — this setup’s gotta be as sturdy as it is stylish.
Step 4: Give Those Bins a Makeover
Plain white bins? Boring. Amy kicked things up a notch with patterned wraps from Toddle&Play - think fun colours and designs that make storage look cool. You can find so many designs on the website if you’re feeling fancy. Bonus: the labels make it way easier to tell where the crayons end and the army of plastic dinosaurs begins.
Step 5: Complete the Look with a Comfy Throne
At first, Amy popped some simple stools under the desk—great for quick colouring sessions, not so great for marathon art projects or epic reading adventures. So, she upgraded to a proper comfy chair. Now her kiddo can hunker down in style, whether it’s for doodles, homework, or getting lost in a good book. Because let’s face it: a cozy seat makes all the difference when creativity (or algebra) strikes!
How long? How much? The juicy details!
Amy pulled off this whole epic setup in just one day. Yep — one day from “blank wall” to “kid’s dream workstation.” Not bad for a DIY superhero moment, right?
And the price tag? You can bring this smart setup to life for under £400. For a wall-to-wall desk + storage combo that looks custom-made? That’s a total steal. Your wallet stays happy, and your kid gets their own mini creative kingdom.
The Trickiest Bit? The Battle of the Wonky Walls
According to Amy, the hardest part wasn’t the building — it was outsmarting the quirks of her 300-year-old cottage. “Making sure everything was level was a challenge, because our walls have a mind of their own!” she shared. (If you’re curious, check out her Insta highlights under Little’s Room for a peek at the wonky-wall saga.)
Amy’s pro tips:
Secure everything to the wall — seriously, don’t skip this. Those TROFAST units come with straps and hardware for a reason.
Take your time lining up the brackets under the desktop — a flush, snug fit is key to making it look built-in and polished.
So measure twice, level thrice, and you’ll be golden!
